Letters From Ralph
San Diego Vacation Rental
All of us at Jubon Juweelen would like to wish all of you a wonderful Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. The wishes come from Lee and Bonnie, Clint and Juliana, Margaret, Sharon, Louise, Fran, Idelle, Arlys, and Alicia. Also from Dan who is with us for a few days during the Tulip Festival. We hope you have a great year and come visit us when you can.
Big Sale After Christmas
We have one of our biggest sales all year the week after Christmas. We call it our pre inventory sale (so we don't have to count so many things in January). On Tuesday, December 26 all of our knitting supplies and beads will be 50% off. On Wednesday, December 27 all of our sewing supplies will be 50% off. On Thursday, December 28, all of our quilting supplies will be 50% off. Although all these sales are only for one day, I'm going to put the batting on sale both the quilting and sewing day because I know people use it for both. I'll do the same for thread. It is used for both quilting and sewing. Then on Friday, December 29, all of our puzzles, games and also our discs are 50% off and then Saturday, December 30 all of our Dutch food is 50% off.
Dutch Cook Book
Renae Vander Schaaf and I are putting together a Dutch cook book. We are hoping to have it finished in about a week, however, we still need a few more recipes. We have a publisher who asked us to write this and he wants 200 pages. So if anyone out there has a Dutch recipe that you would like featured in the book, you could call us or e-mail us right away. I think we have most of the more common ones already, so if you have one that is a little more unusual, we would love to have it. The book has 12 sections in it and the last section is Indonesian cooking. After we have done our part, our publisher will add things to it. Our goal is to have it all ready by the next Tulip Festival. If organizations would like to sell it for a money maker, our publisher will put a special cover on featuring your organization. It is much more than a cook book. We have a summary of each province in the book plus a special section on agriculture in the Netherlands.
Lee & Bonnie selling antiques online with Showtime Auction Services
Lee has collected guns all his life. He has finally decided that he needs to downsize. Last month I had a nice antique that I thought we probably wouldn't have a market for in Orange City, so I researched the internet and found an auctioneer in Michigan that I thought might handle my object. I sent it to him and he sold it for more than I had expected. It is Showtime Auction Services out of Michigan. He has two auctions a year, one in the spring and one in the fall. He holds his auctions in Ann Arbor and it is a live auction, but you can bid by Internet, telephone or letter. So this spring many of Lee's guns will be on the auction and also a wonderful horse hitch that belonged to my Grandfather since the 1930s. If you want to follow the auction go to http://showtimeauctions.com
We spend most of the month during January counting everything for our inventory. We don't have to count the items that are here on consignment (we have 85 people that contribute toward our consignment items), but we do have to include everything that is new in the store.
Juliana Home for a Weekend
It was wonderful to have Juliana home for a weekend this December. Even though her first plane was canceled and the second one was late. We only had about a day and a half together, but it was wonderful. Juliana spent Saturday at the store with me and signed all of the JK Aviar putters we have on hand. She lives in San Diego so we don't see her that much, but it was great to see her again.
Normal Hours in February
February is our least busy month so last February we came up with the idea that we would shorten our hours during the month. We won't do that again this year. It took almost the whole month of March for people to realize that we were open regular hours again. So this year, we will keep our regular hours during February. We will open at 10:07 a.m. M - Sat and close at 5:13 p.m. on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. On Wednesday we stay open until 7:00 p.m. and Saturday we close at 3:13 p.m.
Perusing our Guest Book
This month we had people visit our store from the states of Arizona, California, Illinois, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, New Hampshire, New York, Oregon, South Dakota, Texas, Washington, and all over Iowa. We also had visitors from Vancouver and Ontario, Canada.
