This year the Orange City merchants are trying something a little different. We are only going to be open late December 13, 14 and 15 instead of most of the month. On those three nights we will be open until 8:00 p.m., Santa Claus will be present in the Stadcentrum (just a block south of Jubon Juweelen) and many activities will be organized for children. Check the local papers for exact activities as they are still in the planning stage as of the writing of this newsletter.
Sinterklaas Dag is December 2 this year. Sinterklaas will start out by our Stadcentrum at 10:30 a.m. Meanwhile we will have several items featured in our store including Sinterklaas tree ornaments and discounts from 20 - 50% on many items. See next article for something really special happening at Jubon Juweelen that day.
Meet the Author and Book Signing
On Saturday, December 2 from 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. Renae B. Vander Schaaf will be holding a book signing at Jubon Juweelen at 107 3 rd Street NE in Orange City, Iowa. Renae is the author of Timothy and His Owl Family, released in 2017. Her two other books, A Place of Refuge and A Place of New Beginnings, will also be available. Timothy and His Owl Family book was written after Vander Schaaf attended an Owl Prowl event hosted by the Sioux County Conservation Board. "What do we really know about the owls we hear at night?" asked Vander Schaaf. "I was amazed at what I learned that night on the Owl Prowl. Sunday Ford was an excellent presenter and suddenly owls were more than just a nocturnal bird." Ava LdK Grossmann, formerly of Orange City, now attending college in New York, was the illustrator for the book. Her captivating drawings bring the owl family to life, encouraging the reader and listener to enjoy this part of God's creation.
A Place of Refuge and A Place of New Beginnings record the early beginning of the settlement of the Dutch in northwest Iowa. A Place of Refuge tells the story of why families left the Netherlands and settled in Pella, Iowa and gives a glimpse of farm life in 1869. The books sets the stage for A Place of New Beginnings which opens with the Van Der Zuiden family waiting in their prairie schooners for the caravan of wagons to begin their trip to northwest Iowa. Once there they begin the work of starting their farms and building homes. Many adventures are included in the books that are based on historical fact unique to these early setters.
"A good read for a cold winter night by a fire!"

After Christmas - Pre Inventory Sale
One of our biggest sales comes the day after Christmas and before New Year's Day. We call it our pre inventory sale and each of the five days between December 26 and 30 will have some special product offered at 50% off. Usually it is a six-day sale, but since Sunday is December 31, it will only be 5 days this year. Check our next newsletter to see what will be on sale each day, but since it doesn't some out until just before the sale, we are giving you a "Heads Up" now. We spend almost the whole month of January taking inventory, so the more we can sell just before taking it, the happier we are.
New Line of Napkins
Come to Jubon Juweelen and let us introduce you to our new line of napkins. We have a very nice assortment of holiday napkins for your special gatherings. These are shipped directly from the manufacturer located in The Netherlands.
Happy 7th Birthday
Our 7 th birthday party was very successful and we hope many people were happy with their bargains. Half of the discounts were over 10%, with several people receiving 30, 35, and 40% discounts. We sent out between 700 and 800 postcards. I just had a lady from California call last week to tell us that the postcard we had sent to Arizona now needs to go to California. We send to everyone who has ever put his or her complete address in our guest book. It's amazing how many of those people eventually come back - from all over the world.
Mary Reinders from Orange City, Iowa won our Thanksgiving Turkey this year. Congratulations, Mary!!!
